Rebalancing Energy with Traditional Chinese Medicine

Acupuncture is a time-honoured healing practice that focuses on harmonizing the body’s vital energy, known as Qi, to restore overall well-being. When Qi becomes blocked or imbalanced, it can result in pain, illness, or other health problems. By inserting needles at acupuncture points, TCM practitioners aim to restore the proper flow of Qi and restore balance to the body. While traditional acupuncture focuses on the balance of Qi, modern explanations suggest that acupuncture may work by stimulating the nervous system, muscles, hormones and connective tissues, leading to various physiological effects.

Traditional Chinese Medicine may be incorporated into care for:

  • Stress and emotional wellbeing
  • Digestive concerns
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Fatigue and low energy
  • Chronic pain
  • Seasonal allergies
  • Immune health
  • Women’s and men’s health concerns
  • Overall wellness and preventative care

Orthopedic acupuncture takes a researched and evidence-based approach to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal conditions. Drawing on an extensive understanding of anatomy and orthopedic disorders, practitioners skillfully employ precise needling techniques at motor points and trigger points, targeting specific areas affected by pain, inflammation, or injury. Utilizing electroacupuncture to stimulate these points, this therapeutic method effectively alleviates pain, reduces inflammation, and addresses muscular imbalances. From sports injuries and arthritis to back pain, neck pain, and joint issues, orthopedic acupuncture proves its versatility in addressing a wide range of conditions. As a safe and effective alternative or complement to conventional treatments, it empowers patients to find relief, enhance mobility, and regain control of their physical well-being, ultimately leading to an improved quality of life.

Orthopaedic Acupuncture may be incorporated into care for:

  • Neck and back pain
  • Shoulder pain and rotator cuff concerns
  • Hip, knee, and joint pain
  • Sports injuries and recovery
  • Muscle strains and tendon injuries
  • Sciatica and nerve-related pain
  • Arthritis and joint stiffness
  • Headaches and TMJ dysfunction
  • Repetitive strain injuries (tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, etc.)
  • Mobility and movement concerns

Common Questions About Acupuncture: Everything You Need to Know Before Your Visit

All new patients are asked to complete our New Patient form. From there, you can explore practitioners currently accepting new patients or join the waitlist for a specific practitioner when their practice is full.

Acupuncture is a treatment that involves inserting very fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body to support healing and restore balance. Rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture is also supported by modern research showing it may help stimulate the nervous system, improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and encourage the body’s natural healing processes.

Acupuncture is commonly used to support people experiencing pain, stress, headaches, digestive concerns, hormonal imbalances, fertility challenges, sleep difficulties, and musculoskeletal injuries. Your practitioner will complete a thorough assessment and develop a treatment plan tailored to your specific health goals.

Most people find acupuncture to be very comfortable. The needles are extremely thin—much finer than those used for injections, and many patients feel little to no discomfort during treatment. Some experience a mild tingling, heaviness, warmth, or dull ache, which are all considered normal responses.

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a holistic system of healthcare that has been practiced for thousands of years. Rather than treating symptoms alone, TCM looks at patterns within the whole body to identify the root cause of imbalance. Depending on your needs, treatment may include acupuncture, herbal medicine, dietary recommendations, and lifestyle guidance to support your overall health.

Chinese herbal medicine uses carefully selected plant-based ingredients to complement acupuncture and support your treatment goals. At Meridian, herbal recommendations are made by qualified Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners and are tailored specifically to your health concerns, current medications, and medical history to ensure they are appropriate and safe for you.

Yes. Acupuncture and herbal medicine are often used together because they work in complementary ways. While acupuncture helps stimulate the body’s natural healing responses during treatment, herbal medicine provides ongoing support between appointments, making this combination beneficial for many health concerns.

Your first visit includes a detailed health history, discussion of your concerns and goals, and a comprehensive assessment. Your practitioner will explain their findings, answer your questions, and recommend a treatment plan that may include acupuncture, herbal medicine, or other Traditional Chinese Medicine therapies based on your individual needs.
